Project 2

 In project two I tackled painting portraits of different races. I found it to be both challenging and needed practice. it took me out of my comfort zone. To create even more of a challenge I did all my paintings but one in watercolor to get more comfortable with the medium. I aimed for realism though they still are true to my style that is slightly expressionist.   Through my research I painted mid tones first and lighter colors last. I used neutral colors and my colors included, white, black, yellows, reds, tan, delicate rose, raw umber, burnt umber and burnt Sienna. This palette allowed me to paint a range of skin tones. For skin the brush often went in round motions. For hair I found up and down motions and adding blue gives the hair some texture. I used round and flat brushes.  I fond teeth and noses to be the most challenging part of painting portraits.
