Project 1 :Expressionist Portraits For this project I aimed to paint in the expressionist style. I looked at paintings from the German Expressionist movement and tried to get inspiration from that. I noticed expressionism is about making the viewer feel emotions rather than a realist image. I used color and brush strokes to provoke emotion. I used acrylics for the first two paintings and water color for the last. I found water color difficult to work in. For image one I used a 9x4 canvas with acrylics. On image two I used a black canvas and lighter colors. On image 3 I use3d water color paper and watercolors. I focused on an emotion for each and they were "sorrow", "fear" and "joy". Out of the works I did, I found these to best represent the assigned emotion. I learned that I have much room for improvement and will have to get out of my comfort zone to do so. I first sketched on a sketch book but the final sketches were on canvas....
